Mourning One of Our Own
One month ago, on Monday, February 2nd, Alex Hernickl was honored by the West Bend Common Council for his 30 years with the Crime Prevention Patrol. On Wednesday, March 4th, we learned the tragic news that Alex passed away while at work at John's Decorators in West Bend, where he was the owner.
Alex moved with his family to West Bend in 1956 from Hungary when he was approximately 11 years old. In 1984 he joined the Crime Prevention Patrol. Even at the age of 70 years, Alex was an active participant in many assignments, including parades, Music on Main and overnight security details. He rarely missed a meeting. In the past 5 years he volunteered 283 hours, including 79 in 2014.
Alex will be missed by all who knew him and worked with him. Rest easy, brother, we will take it from here.
